How to use Group Chat , Rooms, Conferences, Persistent Chat, Multi User Chat

The words Multi User Chat, Group Chat, Conferences, Rooms and Persistent Chat are sometimes interchangeably used to describe this feature. Vayusphere client uses the phrase Multi User Chat (MUC) to refer to the feature and Conference to refer to each room.


If your XMPP server supports Multi User Chat (MUC), and during account settings you configured a MUC server in the Edit Accounts menu (available before Login), then you can join a Conference in one of following three ways on the Vayusphere XMPP Client for BlackBerry


1. Manually specifying a Conference to join

Once logged in, you can use the "Join a Conference" Menu item and type in the name of the conference you want to join - for example, helpdesk@conference.yourcompany.com

2. Subscriptions:

If your server supports Conference "Bookmarks" and you have previously selected some Conferences as Bookmarks from a desktop client, then the Vayusphere client would have automatically downloaded that subscription list. That appears immediately below your Contact List called Subscriptions to conference.yourcompany.com

You can select any time on this list and join that Conference.

You can refresh this list by using the Download Conference Subscriptions Menu item.

Note that as of Version 3.6.143, you need to set the subscriptions using a desktop client but once set, the BlackBerry client will download the list from the server. The ability to designate a Conference as a Bookmarked conference will be provided in a future release.

To search for an item in the list use the F shortkey (Type F from the keyboard)



3. Persistent Conference Room Directory

Immediately Below the Subscriptions, is a section called conference.yourcompany.com, where conference.yourcompany.com is the conference server you configured in your account settings

This list is initially empty and is only downloaded on demand, and then saved on the device. To populate this list, highlight the node and then use the BlackBerry menu and pick Download Conference Roster. When the application reminds you that this action could take a long time, select Yes. The application will then download the list of persistent rooms always configured on your server.

You can then select any item from this list, and Join that Conference.


Note that any Conference you join will show on top of the roster screen under Active Conversations, making it easy for you to find the Conference.
